The representatives of the Czech University Presidents Conference have paid a working visit to V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. The delegation consisted of the President of Tomas Bata University in Zlín (Zlín), Petr Sáha, the President of Masaryk University (Brno), Mikuláš Bek, the Vice-President for International Cooperation of Masaryk University, Ivan Malyi, as well as the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Kharkiv, Oleh Chyhrynov, and the Deputy Director of the Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Halyna Usatenko.

V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University was represented by its President, Vil Bakirov, Vice-President Zarif Nazyrov, Director of the Center for International Cooperation, Iryna Shteimiller.

The purpose of the visit was to meet with the University Administration in order to discuss the issues of establishing bilateral cooperation aimed at exchanging faculty members, creating an international university community. “Mutual working visits will enable us to launch several joint projects. Universities cannot exist separately, they should work in the context of a wide academic community and cooperation,” stressed Vil Bakirov.

Mikuláš Bek focused on the need to put into practice internship programs, particularly for scientists, scholars and staff, including those involved in implementing the system of higher education quality management, for experience exchange and joint participation in EU projects.

During the visit, the delegation also met with the presidents and vice-presidents of Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics, I. P. Kotlyarevsky Kharkiv National University of Arts, Kharkiv State University of Food Technology and Trade, O. M. Beketov Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy, Kharkiv Regional Institute of Public Administration of the National Academy of Public Administration under the Office of the President of Ukraine, as well as with Karazin University representatives.

Mr. Bakirov told those present about the achievements of Kharkiv higher school and pointed out that our city is the leading center for the development of national science, especially in physics and information technologies, and has a considerable scientific and pedagogical potential. For their part, Ivan Malyi and Petr Sáha presented their universities and possible areas of cooperation with Ukrainian higher educational institutions. After the meeting, the representatives of Kharkiv University community supported Vil Bakirov’s proposal about signing an agreement between Tomas Bata University, Masaryk University, and Kharkiv National University on establishing an international university association Brno-Kharkiv-Zlín, which other Kharkiv higher educational institutions would join in the future.

The representatives of the Czech universities got acquainted with the expositions of the University History Museum and the Museum of Archaeology.

The meeting ended in signing the Framework Agreement on Cooperation between Masaryk University and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

In the evening, after the preparation and finalization, the Presidents of the three universities signed the Letter of Intent to establish the Interuniversity Consortium “Brno — Kharkiv — Zlín: University Association”.
